G.O.T. Imaging, or Get Out There Imaging, is the product of an incomplete Brooks Institute of Photography, Santa Barbara, education, a misspent youth and a 40+ year passion for the art form. I studied at Brooks in the mid 60’s but left for financial reasons and to work in hopes of finishing school only to be drafted into the U.S. Army. Needless to say, my life changed dramatically when the military saw me as a medic and not a photographer and my enthusiasm slipped quietly to the recesses’ of my life.
My father was an avid photo hobbyist and while I was in high school he and I built a darkroom in our garage where I would spend hours developing Plus X & Tri-X film and printing on an old Besler enlarger. I shot with a Miranda 35mm SLR I purchased from the back of Popular Photography Magazine and my dad shot with a brand new Cannon EOS 630. I enter into the County Fair photo contests with both B/W prints and color slides and actually won a ribbon or two. I took 2 year of high school
photography and taught an Advance Photography class my senior year after school in “7th Period”, before attending Brooks. In 1993, one year before he died, my father gave me his EOS 630 and the passion was rekindled! But it wasn’t until 1999 when I purchased my first digital point & shoot ( a Kodak 3.2 Mega pixel) that I really got hooked. The digital darkroom, like so many others, opened up the modern day world of photography to me. Shortly afterwards I purchased an Olympus C740 and the passion burned brighter within and I started to hear, “Gee, that’s a really good shot”. Now I own a Cannon 20D and have acquired a camera bag full of lenses’ and filters and gadgets, etc!!!
I am still a student, and hope always to be. It is through the encouragement of friends and associates and the publication of my first magazine cover, the Redwood City, CA/San Francisco Peninsula based publication Main Street Magazine (February ’07) that I started Get Out There Imaging (www. GOTimaging.com) and now offer for your enjoyment and purchase, if you’re so inclined, the products of my passion.
